Officials of the state’s two public pension systems came before the House Appropriations Committee during budget hearings at the Capitol. The State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) and the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) are currently carrying a more than $50 billion unfunded liability. A member of the Appropriations Committee, I asked SERS and PSERS for clarification on some of the financial data presented to the committee.
