The National Federation of Independent Business presented me with its “Guardian of Small Business Award” this week in recognition of my legislative work on behalf of Pennsylvania’s small businesses. Pictured with me are NFIB Legislative Director Neal Lesher (left) and NFIB Executive Director Kevin Shivers.
Expanding the Housing Trust Fund
At a Capitol news conference, Rep. Thomas Killion (R-Delaware) said legislation he is sponsoring would help alleviate a housing shortage in the southeast region of the state and all across the Commonwealth while creating jobs and generating much-needed state revenue. House Bill 2434
proposes to expand the Housing Trust Fund with money generated from the existing Realty Transfer Tax. The funding will leverage private sector investment to clean up communities and increase the availability of affordable housing without raising taxes.
Penncrest High School juniors Matt Lunger and Becky Cave shadowed me at the state Capitol as part of Penncrest Opportunities for Workplace Relationships (POWR). Becky has an interest in government and labor relations, and Matt has an eye toward politics.
Gov. Tom Corbett announced that Anthony Grisillo, a teacher at Rose Tree Media School District, is Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year. At the state Capitol, I joined my House colleagues in recognizing Grisillo, an instructor for the academically gifted program in grades K-8. Pictured from left are House Speaker Sam Smith, Grisillo and Reps. Dan Truitt, Joe Hackett and me.
